Mauricio Robalino

My name is Mauricio Robalino.  I was born in Quito, Ecuador.

I grew up there with my mother, brother, and grandfather, who was a famous geographer, historian and explorer. My mother and grandfather are tremendous influences on my life. My mother loved life, art and creativity. My grandfather was a brilliant intellect with a razor sharp wit.

When I was ten, I traveled by ship from Ecuador to Europe. The voyage took almost one month. I brought along a box of watercolors, India ink, and some air mail paper. I fell in love with painting on that trip.

At seventeen I traveled to California to study Business Administration, but fortunately I took a painting elective. I studied painting and sculpture in San Francisco and Santa Barbara. Since 1988 I have been working as artist and teaching artist. I live in Tacoma, Washington, with my wife, two children, six cats and a dog. I practice observing, absorbing, and expressing my experiences through good deeds and great art.

Sincerely,

Mauricio
